For the GCSS-MC program, IR Tech instituted best practices by adopting the system developer’s engineering approach and integrating it with standard system engineering processes and DoD 5000 requirements.

The system developer’s methodology produced a series of design documents starting from system requirements, moving to business process design, and culminating in technical design and development documentation. IR Tech personnel executed a collaborative approach with the system developer. The first component of this approach was to inject corporate knowledge of Marine Corps logistics processes, information technology, and system requirements into the initiating phases of their methodology.

To ensure design completeness, IR Tech personnel instituted requirements management into the developer’s process by requiring the system developer to add Requirements Traceability Matrices to each design document. IR Tech then participated in a disciplined, collaborative approach with the system developer to develop and create the concepts and designs that were documented. This process included facilitated design ‘whiteboarding’ sessions as well as concept development and structured reviews of products and documentation.

IR Tech assumed stewardship of final products and ensured that other technical and functional commodity areas within the program reviewed and provided input prior to formal contract acceptance of design documents. IR Tech followed up by developing specific test cases and technical testing scripts that thoroughly tested the designs. We also facilitated and managed document configuration control processes for all GCSS-MC program documentation along with a supporting program documentation repository as a structured part of configuration management.
